Tyre fitting in Waterford

Tyre fitting in Waterford for cars, vans and 4x4s at Grattan Quay, and commercial sizes at Newrath. Send an enquiry. You pay in the workshop.

What we fit in Waterford

Tom Geraghty Tyre Services has fitted tyres in Waterford since 1981. The rack is Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Uniroyal, Firestone, Hankook, BF Goodrich and cheaper value lines. We are independent, so we are not stuck with one factory’s leftover sizes.

Most passenger jobs are done while you wait when the size is in stock. We balance every new tyre before it leaves the bay. Mixed brands on one axle are a safety issue. We will not do that.

Which depot

Grattan Quay on X91 NX74 is the passenger depot. Newrath, just off the Dublin and Kilkenny road, is commercial, agri and a working stock of passenger tyres if you are already out that side of the city.

How fitting works

You do not pay labour on the website. Send an enquiry or call. We confirm the size, the location and a time, then you pay in the workshop.

  1. Give us the registration and the size on the sidewall (for example 205/55R16). Say if you want premium, mid-range or budget.
  2. We ring back to confirm stock, the depot and when to come in.
  3. We fit and balance. You pay at the counter when the job is done.

Premium, mid-range or budget

Premium lines from Michelin, Continental, Pirelli and Bridgestone tend to last longer and brake shorter in the wet. Mid-range Uniroyal, Hankook, Firestone and Goodyear are what a lot of family cars leave on. Budget tyres exist for short-term cars and we will tell you if that is the sensible spend.

A touring tyre with a strong wet rating will out-stop a bargain sidewall in November rain on the N25. Wet grip on the EU label is the number we talk about before price.

  • Copy the sidewall exactly, or we will read it off the car
  • Do not drop below the load index on the door plaque
  • New rubber goes on the rear unless we have a reason not to

Wet grip on Waterford roads

Waterford’s river roads, South Kilkenny lanes and the N25 punish a pretty compound that cannot clear water. If the car pulls or the old set wore on one shoulder, say so. Alignment is often cheaper than another set in six months.

Vans need the right load index. A 215/65R16C is not the same tyre as a 215/65R16 passenger line even when the first numbers match. Truck and trailer sizes are a Newrath job.

After they go on

Check the pressures after a few days. If a vibration starts, come back. It is often a weight that has shifted or a puncture picked up on the quay.

If you want the set on the car this week, call Grattan Quay on 051 873777 or Newrath on 051 857666 with the size.
