Irish winters and stop-start

Short hops, wet weather and stop-start systems finish a cheap unit by February. A battery that just about cranked in August will not like a frost on the quay. If the car is slow to turn or the lights dip at idle, come in before you are stuck in a car park.

We test battery, starter and alternator

A flat battery in a Waterford car park is rarely a mystery. We test the battery, the starter and the alternator before anything leaves the counter. A battery that is fine and an alternator that is dying is a comeback we would rather not have.

Bring the car if it will move. A battery tested on the vehicle is worth more than a number on a box.

Flooded, EFB or AGM

Exide and Bosch cover most of what is on Irish and UK roads: Golfs, Transits, 4x4s, tractors. Standard flooded, EFB and AGM are different spec. We will not drop a flooded battery into a stop-start car because it is what is on the shelf.

Fitting versus takeaway

If the car will roll in, we test and fit. If you are taking a battery away, we still want the old one for test and return where we can. Fitting is workshop labour. There is no Stripe checkout on this page.

Wiper blades

Irish rain is not the week to find out the old blades are glazing. Conventional hook blades, bayonet and some beam blades are a while-you-wait job when the size is on the rack. Bring the car. A blade that is a centimetre short is a smear across the NCT sight line.

We fit what matches the arm, not a universal that almost clips on.

Recycling the old battery

Do not leave a used battery in a shed. Bring it back. We take the old unit for return. Lead-acid does not belong in a household bin and it does not belong in a ditch in South Kilkenny.

Not a parts counter

Batteries and wiper blades. That is the list. We are not a motor factor. We do not sell oil, filters, spark plugs, belts, brake pads, clutches or steering racks. If you need a service, you need a garage. If you need tyres, alignment, TPMS or a puncture, that is us.
