The answers we give on the counter, written down. Size, salt, winter compound, tracking. Then a workshop enquiry if you need a set fitted.

How to read a tyre size

The sidewall already tells you the size. Copy it exactly, or we will read it off the car at Grattan Quay.

Ireland does not force winter tyres. Waterford winters are wet, not alpine. The right compound still matters below 7°C.

Irish winter salt eats polished lips. Wash them, torque the bolts, and do not put acid wheel cleaner on a face we have just fitted.

A tyre is a size first, a brand second. Irish roads are wet. We look at the wet-grip letter before the rolling-resistance one.

Style is the last decision. A wheel that does not match the hub, the offset or the load rating is a safety problem, not a look.

1.6 mm is the legal floor, not a target. Cuts, age and a slow puncture that has been topped up all week are how cars fail NCT and fail in the wet.

If the inside edge is gone and the outside still has pattern, that is geometry, not the brand on the sidewall.
